LARRY SIMPSON'S G3 REDUCTION DRIVE UPGRADE
VIDEO

I wanted to thank you for arranging the "factory assistance program" for my upgrade to the Gen 3 PSRU yesterday. I had been one of those reluctant to upgrade because I was happy with the performance of my orignal Gen 2, but my take-off to return home yesterday removed the last trace of any doubt. The improvement in performance and initial climb rate at the same prop setting was impressive. This was money well spent.

The upgrade process was a lot less painful than I anticipated. Gary and I worked at a steady but relaxed pace after my arrival from Tampa at 9:30 and had everything completed and ready for the prop balancing, including some very minor mods to the position of the lower radiator and airbox, before 2:30. Gary's insights and tips for improving my installation are very appreciated. And I will replace my non-standard fuel filters before my next flight. Thanks for the
warning.

The other immediate improvement on the flight home was seen in the PSRU temperatures. Previously my Gen 2 had been running at or a degree or two above my oil temperature at fuel flows above 9 gallons an hour or prop settings above 2200. Yesterday afternoon the Gen 3 settled in at 15 to 17 degrees _below_ the engine oil temperature. I have some very complete performance numbers for the Gen 2 and will put the Gen 3 through its paces after the holidays.
