UNFORTUNATLY, EARLY QUINTI SLIP-RING STYLES DO NOT FIT DIRECTLY ONTO THE G3
REDUCTION DRIVE UNIT AND WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATIONS TO THE RING.
- Mark and remove the
two wires attached to the side of the brass slip-ring assembly. Index the
part to the propeller with a marker and gently pry it off the 6 propeller
studs. Be VERY careful not to pry close to the edge or the assembly will be
damaged.
- Send the slip ring
assembly to Eggenfellner Aircraft, Inc. 735 Airpark Rd, Hangar A5,
Edgewater, FL 32132 along with $50 for machining and return shipping.
-
The machinist will chuck the part on the small rear lip, rather then on
the soft brass rings. Even a small scratch in these rings will not go
well with the brushes.
- The center height
is lowered 0.200 and the outside diameter of this inner circle is reduced to
2.147 in order to pilot (center) on the inside of the new propeller flange
centering boss) It will center on the small amount of material sticking up
around the large center nut)
- The outside lip is
removed to 0.001 below the height of the bolt face. The entire face is not
machined because the propeller could become crocked on the flange.
- The brass rings
get a cleaning with a Scotch Pad
- Parts fit together
and are centered on each other without the help from the studs.
